Selections from the Ishibashi Foundation Collection Special Section Artists’ Letters
Selections from the Ishibashi Foundation Collection Special Section Artists’ Letters
25 February [Sat] - 14 May [Sun], 2023
About this exhibition
The Ishibashi Foundation Collection now consists of approximately 3,000 works, including Impressionist paintings from the latter half of the nineteenth century, modern paintings from the twentieth century, modern Japanese paintings from the Meiji period on, postwar Abstract paintings, early modern and modern art from Japan and elsewhere in East Asia, and ancient Greek and Roman art. Here we introduce, throughout the year, a variety of works selected from the collection.
Special Section Artists’ Letters
Artists’ letters record their feelings for their teachers and students, older and younger colleagues, friends, spouses, lovers, and children, their struggles with their work, and memorable anecdotes. They also sometimes provide glimpses of the artist’s character and pattern of human relationships. Here we introduce works from the Ishibashi Foundation Collection associated with letters by Sakamoto Hanjiro and other modern artists as well as the letters themselves.
