Japan Pavilion Return Exhibition (61st Venice Biennale) Opens June 2027 at Artizon Museum

2026.05.06

The Ishibashi Foundation has provided ongoing support to the Japan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale since 1956, when its founder, Ishibashi Shojiro, funded and donated the construction of the pavilion. Building on this historic connection, the Artizon Museum, Ishibashi Foundation, has, since its opening in 2020, organized return exhibitions in Japan after each edition of the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, in order to share the achievements of the Japan Pavilion presentation with a wider domestic audience.

The artist selected to represent Japan at this year’s Venice Biennale is Arakawa-Nash Ei, a performance artist based in Los Angeles. Their participatory work, based on their experiences of raising twins as a queer artist who became a parent in 2024, will be reconfigured at the Artizon Museum for a homecoming exhibition in 2027.
