Two years have passed since the launch of the Artizon Museum in 2020, and this year, we celebrate the seventieth anniversary of the founding of our predecessor, the Bridgestone Museum of Art. The Ishibashi Foundation collection began as the personal collection of our founder, Ishibashi Shojiro and was later donated to the foundation, which continues to broaden and deepen it. This exhibition presents the trajectory of the 70 years of the Artizon Museum since 1952, when the Bridgestone Museum of Art opened, through approximately
170 works of art and documentation, including ancient art, Western and modern Japanese art, Abstractionism, contemporary art, and Japanese and East Asian antique art. We also reflect on our history through posters for past exhibitions, records of the Saturday Lectures, which have been held since the museum opened, an art film series, Shojiroʼs journals of his travels in the West, and other archive materials.
